Tore Up From the Floor Up
Dale and I installed this floor. It's Armstrong Excelon cut into 1" strips and laid herringbone. It's effective but has endured fifteen years of abuse: ice chests, tool boxes; gear, passengers, dogs.
The rip out is not difficult. The mastic is brittle. Only a few areas require a chisel. However the day's activity has exhausted the dog.
An upgrade is to install new underlayment. It will not stabilize the flex; the engine room is still underneath. But it will off-set the seams in the original Chris-Craft substrate. It will give a fresh new surface for the new tile. It will take up the space allotted to factory-specified pile carpet.
Carpet in a wood boat is luxurious but hardly practical.
