Doris Faye, the Dog
Doris Faye's first and original job was to watch over Alexander's work truck. A drug addict outside an address we maintained said, "You know, junkies aren't afraid of dirty needles, but they are terrified of dogs. If you had a dog, you would have to pay me to watch your truck."
Doris Faye was a rescue. She was a Christmas present to a child who adored the 101 Dalmatians puppy but had no use for the dog. Forty pounds, ten pound underweight, with kennel cough, and recovering from spaying surgery; she adopted us. She was the envy of everyone we met in River Queens: Saucy boat, stout mates, spotted dog, America.
